Dr Behnaz Yazdanfar is a prominent Toronto based physician recognized for her achievements in the field of cosmetic surgery. With extensive experience in performing the liposuction procedure, she performs two techniques of the popular body contouring treatment: tumescent and laser-assisted/Smartlipo.

Tumescent Liposuction
Tumescent liposuction is a technique in which the target area is injected with a high amount of solution, comprised of lidocaine, epinephrine, and saline. The injection is made directly in to the subcutaneous fat. Each component of the solution plays a role in the technique: local anesthetia is provided by the lidocaine, the constriction of capillaries results from the addition of epinephrine and the saline liquid makes the fat become tumesced (swollen).

During the tumescent liposuction procedure, no general anesthesia is administered and little blood is lost. The technique may take longer to perform, however results typically appear faster when compared to more traditional forms of liposuction.

Dr Yazdanfar has been trained by one of the most recognized physicians of the tumescent technique, Dr. Patrick Lillis as well as a pioneer of liposuction, Dr. Fournier.

Smartlipo Laser Assisted Liposuction
Dr Yazdanfar is one of the few physicians in Canada who performs Smartlipo, the newest and most advanced method of laser-assisted liposuction. As of December 2007, Dr Yazdanfar is recognized as the most experienced physician in Canada to perform Smartlipo (according to Cynosure, the manufacturer of the Smartlipo device) and has trained other physicians in this method.

Smartlipo has been designed to result in fewer negative side effects than other more traditional forms of liposuction, such as bruising and bleeding. It has the amazing ability to tighten the skin in the area treated, something that other techniques simply cannot do. Patients who undergo the Smartlipo procedure generally experience a shorter recovery time and more immediate results.
